Is Serum the same as lotion?
Is Serum the same as lotion ? I wanted to buy some lotion and I saw Olay Regenerist Serum, but I can't find the fasical lotion thanks
Oh, dear. These people have been sucked in by marketing schemes. "Anti-aging"? Stronger?
Short answer: a serum is simply a lightweight moisturizer. This gives it a lighter feel, which some people (especially people with oilier skin) prefer. What a serum does and what a moisturizer does are THE SAME. It all depends on which ingredients are in the product (you want one with anti-oxidants and no irritants), and therefore, an Olay Serum is a great choice!
The only answer that had any truth to it is the one that said that serums soak into skin better. This is true, as a "serum" usually has a low (or watery) viscosity. This also makes it somewhat better for oily skin, as it will not trap dirt and oil inside the the skin. ANY product that contains anti-oxidants can protect your skin from free-radical damage, including moisturizer! HOWEVER, that person was also a little off, as you do NOT need a moisturizer to "lock in" a serum. That is something cosmetics companies tell you in order to sell you more products than you need.
People who tell you that serums have "specializations," are simply ill-informed, because they believe whatever the cosmetics industry tells them (and are probably spending loads more money than they should be!).
So, in short, if you have oilier skin or if you prefer a lighter feel, stick with the serum. If you have dry skin or like a creamier moisturizer, hold out for the lotion.
